Fibres West 2013
Canadian Cashmere Producers Association at Fibres West 2013
The Canadian Cashmere Producers Association participated at Fibres West 2013 held at Cloverdale, BC, March 22, 23rd, for the first time. Lori Giesbrecht and
Heide Krause manned the education and sales booth both days with Cara Reynolds and Karin Lloyd bringing their support on Friday.
Karin Lloyd gave a one-hour presentation, "Canadian Cashmere ~ Simply the Finest" to an interested and keen group on Friday. That presentation will be available to members for incorporation into any CCPA or cashmere events in the future. Lori Giesbrecht of Redeemer’s Garden donated raw cashmere for participants to handle,
work with, play or spin while Karin explained the standards and qualities of Canadian cashmere.
The CCPA booth had steady and ample traffic and attendance from start to finish, both Friday and Saturday, with over 1000 people attending Fibres West.
Responses and feedback ranged from "I had no idea we have cashmere in Canada" and "Wow, cashmere here!" "Do you have goats yourself?", to questions
about working with raw fleeces, preparation and hand processing and "what would you be able to do with [this much] cashmere?"
We handed out copies of the CCPA Breeder Directory as well as the CCPA brochure. Visitors also helped themselves to vendor calling cards and brochures.
Thanks to CCPA’s Cara Reynolds, Karin Lloyd, Lori Giesbrecht, and Heide Krause and to our volunteers Amber and Bonnie, for their support on both days.
This was a worthwhile and fun event for both CCPA and participant vendors.
